Today was my first day at General Assembly as part of the first Web Development Intensive course. Whilst I have been running my own business and writing a code for a few years now, the decision to take this course came around from a desire to improve my skills and learn some new ones.
I try to keep up with the latest news, trends and techniques and build on my skills as a coder via blogs, podcasts and conferences, but even with the best of intentions, life & work still tend to get in the way. I decided last year that the only way I would be able to truly get to grips with Ruby and start building a better knowledge of full stack development would be by taking some time away from the ‘day job’ to focus fuly. I did a lot of research into the various options available, theres a number of online options, I even considered moving to America for a few months, but then I found GA and the London Campus.
After attending an open evening and meeting the team it felt like the logical next step and I was thrilled to be accepted to the program which started today. In the weeks before the course I’ve worked through the 40+ hours of pre-work and got great satisfaction out of completing the tasks and filling in some of the blanks that had been holding me back with Ruby.
Now the course has started I am really looking forward to taking things further and thought I would keep track of my progress of this course on this new blog here.
