2011, the road to IM France
2 min read
2010 has been a great year, I finished my first half Ironman, completed an Olympic tri in under 2:20 and more importantly than all of that my beautiful wife gave birth to our second daughter Isla !
It's easy to get bogged down in the grind of daily life and the routine of training and end up forgetting just how far you have come. 2011 will be my third year in triathlon and hopefully will be the year I complete my first Ironman event, 3 years ago the thought if running more than 100metres was just alien to me, but it is with hard work and focus I have managed to get this far. I feel even more determined and dedicated to pushing myself further this year and completing my first Ironman.
I have set my self some goals for 2011, complete a sub 1:35 half marathon, achieve a sub 2:18 for an Olympic distance tri and sub 40mins for a 10km run. As I am now in the full swing of my base training and my endurance is improving I hope that these will be achievable goals. The next 6 months have some pretty tough training days ahead scheduled but as the days are starting to get longer and warmer, training should be easier.
This week went well considering New Years Eve and more bank holidays, I completed 9,2km of swimming in 3 sessions, cycled 162km with most of it outside and ran 38km all outside. Being off work has meant I can take advantage of training in daylight hours which has also helped, but its back to the grind tomorrow.
Happy New Year to anyone that is following this blog, I hope that we all achieve our goals for 2011. To quote T.S. Eliot
Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far they can go.
